On Sunday September 16th, Lakehead University Thunderwolves and Georgian College Grizzlies competed against each other in the annual Orientation Cup hockey game. For years, the two local post-secondary schools have conducted a friendly game at the beginning of the school year as part of their Orientation program for new and returning students. The winning team not only gets bragging rights, but also gets to take the O-Cup home to their institution! Around 60 Lakehead Thunderwolves sat in the stands of Rotary Place cheering and supporting their team. Within the first period, Thunderwolves were able to score two goals which put them quickly in the lead, a place they were determined to stay. Through hard work and fast skating, the Thunderwolves were able to come out victorious for the first time since 2012 with a final score of 5-3. The O-cup is now proudly displayed in Simcoe Hall at the University's main Orillia campus for all to see.
